Trapping carbon dioxide could fight climate change
Pacific Northwest National Lab scientists plan to soon test a new technique they developed for storing carbon dioxide underground at a pulp and paper mill in southeastern Washington.
Pesticide buffer zones expanded
Three salmon-killing pesticides banned for household use but still used widely in agriculture and elsewhere are dangerous enough to salmon that anyone using them will have to stay far away from the water, federal officials ruled Tuesday.

WASHINGTON -- Congress will not act until 2010 on a bill to limit the heat-trapping gases blamed for global warming despite President-elect Barack Obama's declaration that he will move quickly to address climate change, the chairman of the Senate Energy Committee predicted Wednesday.
